Real estate agents are not the only ones that can open your door; Amazon can now open your door too (with your approval of course)! The tech giant is slowly creeping further into our lives with additional concepts to help users have access to their seemingly endless number of products.
Amazon Key launched in October 2017 with the intention of providing Amazon Prime users with in-home delivery. The primary objective is to ensure your package is secure inside your home and not left on the porch or just outside your apartment door. This may be of particular interest to Calgary during those chilly winter months! With more people turning to Amazon for daily goods, electronics, and even groceries, one can see the benefit of having your items dropped off inside your door.
Now on the other side of the token, we know new services that enter further into our lives are not universally greeted with excitement. Push back is coming from those that wonder what security checks will be implemented to vet those that have access. Also, could the system be maliciously hacked? Amazon Key requires both a tracking locking mechanism and a video camera at your front door. This gives the occupant a clear picture in real time of how the drop off is executed, and the occupant receives constant updates. Many of these concepts do seem crazy until they are widely accepted: look no further than Airbnb, Uber, etc.
Services like this never go unnoticed in the real estate industry as home entry is part of our duties, but this is not the first service to move toward self-entry. Amazon Key is not available in Canada as of yet, but if adoption rates are high in the US, one could assume, Amazon Key may soon be delivering your package in -20-degree weather without issue.
